Food vendors (i.e. food trucks, carts or trailers) are only permitted on private land in the Central Business District.  Unless authorized as part of a special event or being used as a private catering services, the City will not authorize any food vendors to operate on public lands – including public sidewalks, streets or in public parks.

The City classifies this as an "Accessory Dwelling Unit." There are a number of variables that determine if it is permitted for your property. Is the property being rented for 30 days or more?

• If the property is being rented for longer than 30 days, then no. The City of Stillwater does not have a rental program for long term leases. Long term being 30 days or more.

• If the property is being rented for less than 30 days, then yes. The City of Stillwater considers any rental shorter than 30 days to be a "Short Term Home Rental."  We recommend calling the Planning Department to ensure your lot is not over it's allowed coverages. 

1.  A maximum of one shed is allowed per residential lot.
   
   
2. 120 square feet is the maximum size (footprint) and one-story 20 feet maximum height.
   
   
3.  Sheds are allowed only in the rear or side yard areas. They must not be placed in any utility or drainage easement.
    
4.  Three-to-five foot setback from rear and side property lines (varies by zoning district).
   
   
5.  Exterior color, design, and/or material should be similar to the principal structure.
   
   
6. Footings and foundations are not required, however, it is recommended sheds be anchored to avoid tipping over in winds.
   
   
7. A building permit may or may not be required although site plan review is required by the Planning Department.

The City of Stillwater is not responsible for verifying property lines.

• Some properties have old metal pins in the ground, designating the corners of the property. Property owners have sometimes used metal detectors to find those pins.
  
  
• Another option is to hire a surveyor to survey your property and find the exact location of your property lines.

The legal property owner's signature is required for ALL applications.

Sign companies/installers are also required to have a City Contractor's license with the City. Staff will need a completed City Contractors license and Certificate of Liability insurance with proof of workers compensation submitted along with any sign permit application.
