Building Inspections

**PERMIT FEES TO INCREASE EFFECTIVE 3/1/24

The Building Inspections Division is responsible for the application and enforcement of the building code and related ordinances regulating construction, alterations and the use of buildings within the city.

Building Permits are required for many building projects, including new construction, additions, structural changes, decks, finished basements, pools, demolition, roofing, siding, and window replacement. Many projects require a plan review.

Permit fees are paid at the time the permit is issued. Fee Schedule

The Building Department has office hours when the Building Inspectors and Building Official are available to meet with or talk to people.  Those hours are M-F  7am - 9am and 1pm - 2pm.  Outside of those hours, the Building Inspectors and Building Official are doing inspections and plan review and an appointment would be necessary.

When submitting permit applications, always check the address to make sure that the address is actually in the City of Stillwater.  Many other jurisdictions have the same zip code as the City of Stillwater and when searched via internet will appear to be the City of Stillwater, but they are not located in Stillwater.  Please use the link below or google Washington County Maps to determine if you are submitting your application to the correct jurisdiction. Click on quick search and enter the numeric street number and street name.  Leave off any extras such as court or lane as if not typed exactly as the county has it, it will not show up.  Look up in the left hand corner for jurisdiction vs. the square that comes up which shows postal mailing address.
