Owning old structures, whether historically-designated or not, has many benefits but maintaining these structures can become very costly. Resources are available to help offset the costs associated with owning and maintaining these properties.

Tax Credits

State and Federal tax incentives are available to property owners who would like to improve their properties. Basic information about tax incentives can be found by using the links, below.

Federal tax programs are available for National Register listed properties and those structures that are designated as Contributing in the National Register Commercial Historic District. However, federal incentives are available to properties constructed prior to 1936. For more information about Federal Tax Credit Programs, click here.

State tax programs are available for National Register listed properties and those structures that are designated as Contributing in the National Register Commercial Historic District. For more information about State Tax Credit Programs, click here.

Property Insurance

Do you have adequate insurance? Older buildings often need professional design assistance, skilled workers, and specific replacement detailing in the event of loss. Whether designated or not, your older structure may qualify for National Trust Insurance Services.
