The Stillwater Commercial Historic District was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 and is also locally designated, with a slightly different boundary (known as the Downtown Design Review District.  The heyday of the district represents the period 1860s-1911.  Architecturally, the properties in the district represent several prominent styles and reflect the economic underpinnings of the local economy during the period of significance.
