May 28, 1872 - City Council passed an ordinance and the Stillwater Fire Department was formed and has been proudly protecting the Birthplace of Minnesota.

June 3, 1872 the official name was to be "Stillwater Steam Engine Company, No. 1".

The City of Stillwater 's first piece of fire equipment was the Silsby Steamer. By the end of 1874 the department added a hook and ladder wagon, which enabled the firefighters to reach the taller homes and larger buildings.

1887 the new fire hall, a two story brick structure was completed and located one lot south of Trinity Lutheran Church near Third and Myrtle streets, where the post office is today.
