Study Overview: The Washington Avenue Intersection Study will prepare planning level concept alternatives to address concerns related to operations and safety at Washington Avenue and the Frontage Road adjacent to Highway 36. The objective of this study is to evaluate existing conditions and conceptual alternatives designed to improve traffic operations and identify potential improvements for people who walk, bike or drive. The study will:

  • Develop alternatives to address existing safety concerns
  • Gather community feedback on potential improvements
  • Recommend improvements to make the road safer for people who walk, bike and drive

Public meeting #1: Thursday, June 27 (4 – 6 p.m.):

The first open house introduced the study and provided an opportunity to hear from residents and stakeholders about existing issues at the intersection.

The current intersection of Highway 36 and Washington Avenue is controlled by a stoplight that often results in queuing issues and delays to drivers. Washington Avenue also serves as access to a busy area consisting of shopping, dining, healthcare and entertainment opportunities, with limited pedestrian facilities. The meeting shared the 2018 report alternatives as a starting point, and asked the public provide input and reactions.
